Trek to The Colca Canyon Itinerary Day 1 to 3 of 3




Tour Lenght:
3 days / 2 nights.
Activities: Outdoor, Archaeological, Ecological.
Spots to visit: Chivay, Cabanaconde, San Juan de Chuccchos, Oasis.
Fixed Departures:
Every day except Sundays of 2008 / 2009 from Cusco.
No Operating: All February.
Domestic Flights: Not included.

Day 1 AREQUIPA - CHIVAY - SAN JUAN DE CHUCCHOS

04.00hrs. Land transportation from Arequipa to the Mirador (only in the private tour) passing by the Patapampa and the Village of Chivay and along the Colca Canyon left margin to the Condor Cross. From the Mirador we will be able to see the walls of the opposite right margin of the Canyon where the villages of Tapay, Cosnihua and Malata are located and will be visit by us later on. 0900hrs From Cabanaconde we will descent during 3 hours along a zigzag trail of the Colca Canyon left margin until we reach 1200 Mts. of deepest. 1200hrs Arriving at the Colca river level we will appreciate a beautiful view of the Canyon from the bottom up, we will have a tropical microclimate. We will walk until we find a hunging bridge across the Colca River that will take us to the right margin. Lunch and short rest. Then trek for two hours to the village of San Juan de Chucchos. Base camp and dinner.

Day 2 SAN JUAN DE CHUCCHOS - MALATA
After breakfast we will depart toward the village of Tapay
at 1 hour trekking from this village you can only arrive walking or by mule. It has a beautiful colonial church and the architecture and landscape are unique. View of the Sepregina snow cape and the the enormous pick of the Bomboya. Then we will walk to the old Tapay to see the preincas ruins. Impressive view of the Colca Canyon from the right margin. Return to Tapay, lunch made of locale dishes. After lunch, trek along the right side, crossing the small Sepregina river and on to Cosnihua and Malata. 17.00hrs stop to prepare base camp and dinner.

Day 3 MALATA - AREQUPA
Very early wake up, breakfast and then cross the river again, to Cangallo. You will start your way up the Canyon with a 4 hours trek to Cabanaconde, there will be our transport unit waiting to takes us to Chivay. Lunch at Chivay at your own, you can take a hot bath at La Calera; afternoon return to Arequipa by the Chucura way, Pampa Cañahuas Vicuña reservation and on. We will arrive to Arequipa aprox 18.39hrs.

- Binoculars, Camera and plenty of batteries.
- Sleeping Bag.
- Warm clothing
- 100% waterproof rain gear during JAN, MAR
- (long- poncho or rain wear)
- Sunscreen lotion
- One pair of lightweight ankle height boots
- Flashlight, enough batteries (alkaline) and bulbs
- Wide brim hat, sun glasses
